I spoiled myself with some killer black, crystal-studded heels by Vero Cuoio from Barney’s New York! It was my big splurge— Though I am still really upset that I didn’t buy the large VBH black python bag and the cream colored mink coat I saw at Bergdorf Goodman, but a girl must have a bit of self control— I spoiled the children with a Steif Teddy Bear each from FAO Swartz— We have a tradition in our family to buy a Steiff animal each trip to New York from FAO and usually one of the big giant stuffed animals as well, but not this year (downsizing) and then I found a sale on the top floor of Barney’s New York and saw the perfect thing to spoil Sugar, our family’s baby Chihuahua, with— a collar by Gaga’s Workshop and a Chappy&Bailey Italian cashmere cream colored sweater. Doesn’t he look precious!!! Though I was told upon arrival that Sugar’s name has been changed to Charlie!
My friend Rudy shared this with me. This is my grandmother, Jeanne Crain. People can never understand why I show up at school drop off fully done-up— Hair done, make-up done, dressed up, coat, hat and bag at 8am. Well, you may understand looking at my grandmother— I grew up with a movie star and was influenced by a golden era of the silver screen that is long passed, but lives on in me. A girlfriend of mine remarked how odd I was showing up decked out in a fur coat and glasses at school drop off, but when another friend of mine came over to my house and saw the framed photo of my grandmother on the cover of LIFE magazine, she remarked “That explains why you are who you are.” Yep. It’s all my grandma’s fault!
I go to my dance class directly after I drop off my three kids at school in the morning. I love my JAM Star dance class, I couldn’t live without it, but sometimes I have errands to do before I pick the kids up from school, which means time is of the essence and which also means I don’t have time to go home and change before I check things off of my “to do” list. I do not like walking around town in my exercise clothes all day either, but I’ve found that if I throw a beautiful coat over my workout clothes and maybe a bit of fur (or fake fur if that’s your preference) and some sunglasses and I’ve got a look that’s somewhere between movie star and dancer. It may be a bit odd, a bit eccentric to wear a nice coat over leg warmers and dance shoes, but it’s ultra glam and what a girlfriend of mine from JAM Star class donned “New York City Dancer.” Throw on a hat, too! The coat, hat and fur help cut down on that cold, ice water feeling when you walk from the hot box to cold, fresh air.
WHAT MAKES YOU FEEL BETTER WHEN YOU ARE IN A BAD MOOD?
When I am in a bad mood, sometimes I give my myself a moment to feel bad and I stroke my heart and imagine a little angel in there polishing off the black soot of sadness or anger… I try to pretend that I am my own mother for a moment and nurture myself. Sometimes I imagine breathing in white light and breathing out all the black smoke… I don’t stay there too long though, I consciously shift my focus on something I am grateful for in my life. Most of us dwell (and I used to) on what is wrong in our lives instead of focusing on what we are grateful for. I realized a long time ago there are so many more things that good in our life that we take for granted. I focus on simple thing that I usually take for granted— like hot water for my bath, like cool, clean water to drink, like the bright blue sky and fresh air to breathe, that I am healthy— everything I can think of that makes me happy— my children, my pets, my family and friends, that I live in Malibu… There is so much to be grateful for— before I know it… I AM HAPPY!!!! Most of the time I just need a little catnap and I wake up refreshed:)
Winter is here… Time to pull out my favorite black sweater dress by UNITED COLORS OF BENETTON bought when I was in Budapest a few years ago filming Secret of Moonacre. It was unusual shopping in Budapest- the Four Seasons had a Wolford and there was Mammut and were some recognizable shops like Cavalli, but most of the fashion was even more drab than when I had been on location in New Zealand the year before. There were a few exciting young hip stores and designers there like nanushka, frenetic, Naray Tamas, Retrock and my favorite ECLECTICK. Selma Blair was there filming Hellboy and we kept planning on an escape to Vienna, but it never happened. My good friend, actress/model Kata Dobo, was the one who showed me all of the great shops in Budapest. I mixed this old sweater dress with my brand new black Joe’s Jeans and felt all cozy for winter time.

For the majority of the second music video from a trilogy of music videos she filmed with award-winning director Juri Koll, Lady Bret wears a unique black dress by Marithe Francois Girbaud and purple shoes by Louis Vuitton as she walks the streets of Hollywood and visits the Chinese Grauman Theatre where her famous grandmother, jeanne Crain’s foot prints are.
Lady Bret also wears a casual, rayon black dress by Indah that she picked up on her travels to Lanikai on Oahu in Hawaii where she owned a home on the ocean that was sold in her divorce.
“Lanikai is a special place for me and I had my favorite clothes form my closet in Hawaii sent to Malibu when we sold the house. Malibu is number one in my heart and Lanikai is my second home. Ruby, Bowie, Romeo and I still rent a house there each summer. It’s funny that when I lived in Beverly Hills I shopped at Barney’s New York, Escada and other desingers like Marithe Francois Girbaud, Prada, Louis Vitton… and many others. Now that I have moved out to Malibu, I’m not in town much and I shop more at Kitson, Tory Burch, Alice and Olivia, Intermix, Madison and Planet Blue. They just opened a Missoni and a Lanvin as well.”

“My daughter is an amazing director, she is always making little films. In fact she has her own channel on you tube and help me set up mine! She is the first time we have worked together since we filmed a movie toogether in Budapest called “Secret of Moonacre” filmed by her father and my now ex-husband, Gabor Csupo, creator Of Rugrats and director of Bridge to Teribithia.”
